How to Add Social Proof to App Screenshots

People download apps that other people trust. Learn how to strategically embed 5-star reviews, awards, and milestones into your App Store visuals.

What is Social Proof in ASO?

Social proof is the psychological phenomenon where people assume the actions of others reflect the correct behavior. If thousands of other people are enjoying your app, a new user is highly likely to trust it and download it.

While the App Store natively displays your overall star rating below your app's title, users often scroll right past it to look at the screenshots. By embedding tangible trust signals directly into your Hero screenshots, you force the user to acknowledge your app's quality instantly.

Types of Visual Social Proof to Include

1. The 5-Star Badge

This is the most common and effective method. Simply adding a visual graphic of five golden stars with text like "Over 10,000 5-Star Reviews" immediately establishes authority. Place this either right above your main headline or in the negative space at the bottom of the screenshot.

2. User Quotes

If you have received a highly descriptive, glowing review from a user, quote it! Wrap the quote in a chat bubble or a premium-looking card. It is much more persuasive for a user to say "This app changed my life" than for you to say it.

3. Awards and Badges

Have you been featured by Apple? Did you win a Webby Award or Product Hunt App of the Day? Add the laurel wreath graphic or the specific award badge to your first screenshot. Apple loves it when you highlight their "App of the Day" features.

4. User Milestones

If your app has a large user base but maybe fewer reviews, highlight the scale. "Join 1 Million Habit Trackers" is a powerful headline that uses FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) to drive downloads.

Pro Tip: Adhere to Apple's Guidelines

Apple's App Store Review Guidelines prohibit you from displaying fake pricing, fake awards, or referencing specific ranking positions that change dynamically (e.g., "The #1 App in the World"). Ensure any social proof you add is verifiable and true, otherwise Apple may reject your metadata update.

How to Add Badges with ReinShots

You don't need a complex graphic design tool to add these badges. ReinShots Studio allows you to overlay graphics directly onto your canvas without disrupting your layout.

Placement is Everything

Don't clutter your first screenshot. If your headline is massive and your device frame takes up the rest of the space, move your user quote to Screenshot #3. Only place a small, tasteful 5-star badge on the first screen to maintain a clean aesthetic.

Build Trust Instantly

Use ReinShots to easily drag and drop review badges, star ratings, and awards onto your app screenshots and watch your conversions soar.
